Woori Bank Dalian Branch Manager Delivers Career and Finance Lecture at Dalian Korean International School 110104 ±è¶ó¿Â On September 17, Mr. Heo Jong-moo, Branch Manager of Woori Bank¡¯s Dalian branch, visited Dalian Korean International School to deliver a special two-hour lecture to middle and high school students. The session focused on the importance of choosing a career carefully, the changing nature of jobs, and the role of finance in the modern world. Mr. Heo emphasized that personal fulfillment and happiness are closely tied to one¡¯s career. ¡°Finding a job that matches your interests and strengths is crucial to living a happy life,¡± he told the students, encouraging them to think deeply about their future aspirations. During the lecture, he illustrated how occupations evolve over time, citing examples such as sedan chair carrier s and bus attendants jobs that no longer exist due to — technological and social changes. He also discussed the emergence of new careers in areas like fintech, data analysis, and health counseling, showing students how the future of work will continue to shift rapidly. Turning to finance, Mr. Heo explained that financial services account for around 14% of all professions in Korea. He introduced students to various type s of financial institutions, including banks, securities firms, insurance companies, and credit card companies, and described the wide range of career paths available within them from — fund managers and foreign exchange dealers to actuaries and cre dit analysts. The lecture also highlighted the importance of financial literacy and personal credit management. Mr. Heo stressed that even small delays in paying bills or loans can significantly affect one¡¯s credit score, which in turn impacts opportunitie s later in life. He advised students to develop good financial habits early, such as using debit cards responsibly and avoiding high-interest loans. Students actively engaged with the lecture, sharing their thoughts on disappearing and emerging jobs, and some received small gifts for answering questions about the future of finance. The event left a strong impression on students, broadening their understanding of careers in finance and the skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing job market. Q&A Highlights Q: With the rise of AI, will jobs like fund managers or traders decline significantly in the future? A (Mr. Heo): Among many financial jobs, bank tellers are expected to decre ase sharply due to automation and mobile banking services. However, careers in big data analysis, fintech, and financial security are expecte d to grow rapidly. Students should consider preparing for these emerging fields. Q: Recently, the KOSPI rose for five consecutive days, influenced by U.S. tech stocks. Will this be a temporary surge or a sustainable trend? A (Mr. Heo): Current KOSPI growth is partly driven by new government policies and shareholder return initiatives. While U.S. market trends still influence Korea, the connection is weaker than in the past. For example, semiconductor demand strongly — linked to AI growth plays a key role in Korea — ¡¯s market. I believe students can benefit from gaining early experience in stock investing, even in small amounts. |
